Elmgreen & Dragset Gay Holocaust Memorial Opens in Berlin

My friends Michael and Ingar Unveiled their monument to gay holocaust victims in Berlin this week. A video screen set into the monument shows a one-and-a-half minute film loop of two men kissing, directed by the Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, best known for his 1998 drama "The Celebration." Visitors can watch the film, which was shot on the same location as the monument, through a small window in the pillar.

Even now, there was a lot of resisitance to this monument in Berlin and some of the cultural poohbas forbade a depiction of the Kiss on the invites.

Artforum .com covers these issues really well, you read their coverage here.

Matt Siren on Eldridge Street

I came across this mural this morning and recognized these clouds, this guy is definately my favorite street artist , then noticed he had a show across the street so I went in and was immediatly cornered by two growling dogs. I am the worlds biggest dog lover but when they growl at me i take that as a sign to leave them alone. so I left. I really enjoyed the outside piece tho.

Justen Ladda

I just came across these amazing rock sculptures on delancey and Allen Street. They are part of a project by the Artist Justen Ladda. Check them out in person and to find out more about Justen check out his website here.

These are only small details of these incredibly detailed paintings, go see them if u get the chance! Is it just a coincidence that after I made my painting that included a Vermeer on the wall then THIS appears?? Mary Boone gallery!

Avaf, Deitch, Brazil, Ely, Desi

Ely's Installaton at Deitch In Queens is one of the reasons I love New York. My only complaint is that the beautiful Desi Santiago, aka The Desinator, was covered up in a costume all night. Although the costume was incredible! More and better pics to follow

Feinstein, Pruitt, Altmejd, Eliasson

Went around to art shows in chelsea today and saw some great stuff. Rachel Feinstein put on a great show at Marianne Boesky Gallery. I love her work when It looks like sets for a theatrical production. Heres her picassoesque sculpture. Rob Pruit was installing a piece at Shafrazi called Viagra Falls. David Altmejd's exhibition at Andrea Rosen was greathttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif Giant figures of all different materials crowded the space but it felt right....We ended at Tanya Bonakdar gallery where Olafur Eliasson had installed a music making drawing holographty machine. I made a drawing and here's Ethan from the gallery operating the machine

Bill's Stew BQ

Sunday Bill had a Bar bq in honor of my visit and his earning a master's degree. He had bought all these sausages and bar be que stuff but as the forecast was for 100% rain we had to do some quick thinking, so we bought some black beans and cooked up an approximation of Feijoada. The forofa was easy to make as there are all these brasilian stores in Bill's neighborhood and it was easy to find the ingredients. The rain ended up stopping, the feijoada turned out great and everybody had a really good time.
