FG FT @ Envoy enterprises NYC

Im really happy to be a part of theis group show opening thursday of work related to the seminal dark electro pop pioneed Frank Tovey, AKA Fad Gadget The form is based on a piece by Ettore Sottsass along with Memphis/Milano called Beverly, the most artificial looking thing around which I rendered as park furniture....from the inorganic to the orangic....back to nature!... And although the 45 rpm record in the log at the corner has no label...in fact it's "Back To Nature"

Computer Love pt. 3

I met this great guy online, an artist like myself. We chatted all morning about things we were both most interested in and it was fascinating and he was great looking, very sexy and smart and funny and I was almost falling in love, or at least as close to it as you can on growl'r. His pictures were a little bit blurry and arty but he's an artist so that kind of goes with the territory and there was enough visible for me to be able to tell that I liked what I saw. Then, after exchanging 120 messages I asked if we could be facebook friends and he said sure unless my page had all kinds of gay stuff on it because if someone back home saw it that could be very difficult for him. So I thought about it and figured that yeah, there probably was some gay stuff there on my FB page, I mean, I'm gay and very sociable and it's New York so I get invited to lots of gay themed events along with a lot of things that have nothing to do with my sexuality. Then all of a sudden my heart sank and I thought about why. This probably touched off the little bit of internalized homphobia still inside me even though me and my shrink work on that regularly but mostly I was reminded of a very specific hurt that I felt when a previous boyfriend treated me as an inconvenience and dumped me around the holidays as his family didn't know he had a boyfriend. So after this Artist guy told me the conditions under which we could be facebook friends, all of a sudden I backed off and he felt it and asked why. I told him of all the feelings it brought up, the hurt of losing someone I knew didn't really want to break with me, the accusations that he had to make up. The whole thing was like some '50's melodrama...a bad B-movie or the scene in STTS where the blond spy dumps his BF for no reason other then a fear of being found out. I stayed with these feeling and examined each new on that came up to make sure I have no resentment towards my ex. and I don't, I thank him for teaching me to love and respect myself and to avoid any situation were I have to hide who I really am.

Angie Johnson Rolling In The Deep

Paul Babeu

Apparantly this ultraconservative sherrif in Arizona threatened his mexican boyfriend with deportation for going public about their relationship. Further evidence that the only time your sexuality is a problem, is when you hide it. If you're open about it, no one can use it against you.  If he dosn't think he deserves to be open about who he is, if he deny's himself that right he will have no problem denying those rights to others and he can justify it. If it's really true that he threatened his BF with deportation that's an extreme example of the lengths people will go to to stay in the closet. It's a manifestation of all the hurt and denial he's inflicted upon himself. Hopefully, down the road Babau will realize how sad and mean he has been not only to others but to himself and will be able to turn this into a good thing and speak about it. I wish him and his ex- BF all the best.

Whitney's REAL tragedy was giving up her greatest love of all - her female partner Robyn Crawford

I never paid much attention to Whitney, I liked the songs but heard them so often I never really bothered to learn more about her. If this is really true, it wouldnt surprise me. People have been denying their sexuality for ages and usually somebody gets hurt as a result. I ran across a great quote by Henry Miller the other day...

“Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end.”
― Henry Miller

Lana Del Rey

She's everywhere and no one seems to be on the fence about her. Its all love or hate. One music bearcub hipster pal put it thusly. He feels she's to much like product, he gets the feeling that she sold out too much.

Its odd though, everything seems perfectly in sync to me, the image and the songs. The wispy warbly pouty little girl voice and the introspective nature of the lyrics. She sounds like somebody who's locked in her bedroom singing her inner thoughts to herself. Wether she locked herself in or someone else did is unclear. And the over botoxed face is like that of a gangster's girlfriend, definatly tragic beauty......

The whole phenonenon and people's responses is fascinating

Dry Aged Filet Mignon

This was one of the most delicious pieces of meat I have ever experienced. Soft and tender yet supremely beefy and funky......

Damian Hirst at Every Gagosian Gallery In The World

Damien Hirst's spot paintings are in every single Gagosian gallery in the world. I've seen the 3 shows in New York and found the two in chelsea dead, boring and samey. The one at the madison ave space was actually pretty good, with a lot more different shapes and sizes and many of the earlier ones that were not quite as formulaic. including the very first one, which Hirst painted himself then left folded up on a shelf, when it was unfolded and stretched it had cracked and looked very worn. I made a point of chatting with the guards in all the galleries, asking which was their favorite and which was the best and I ended up learning an awful lot

On The Set of Gossip Girl

I always knew this set looked familiar then today when I went to the Museum of the City of New York to see the Cecil Beaton show It was confirmed, yes, this is the set of Gossip Girl. I've walked the same hallowed ground as Marilyn Minter and Richard Phillips and all the other artists who have appeared on Gossip Girl....xoxo

Other Bodies at Zieher Smith

This was easily one of the best shows I saw yesterday in Chelsea

Joel Sternfeld at Luhring Augustine

There were so many good shots in this show at Luhring Augustine, well worth seeing...
