Flood

There was a flood in my studio over the Christmas and 4 boxes of records had to be thrown out.....kinda sad, then again I wont have to lug them around anymore....

Liza with a Z!

My Friend Bill had an extra ticket to Liza Minelli last week and asked me along..I said why not...and I was blown away! That whole show biz-y world that she is a part of seems so foreign and distant to me....but it was a great show and oddly relevent, and, I had forgetten that she was in a movie that I saw as a teenager and loved then "New York, New York". The song I really like from that movie is called "The world goes 'round" I couln't find it here on you tube so here's the theme song ....In this version I think its done on new years eve in The rainbow room at rockefeller center. So if you have nothing to do on new years, imagine you're here. I'll be in Asbury Park , NJ at my friend Van's house...it'll be really warm there...

Jeff Koons in Milk

I really liked Gus van Sant's "Milk", an interesting story, well acted, probably my favorite Sean Penn film since "Fast Times at Ridgemont high" and yes that is Jef Koons making a cameo as the future mayor of SF.

Carlos Cruz-Diez: (In)formed by Color at Americas Society

I can't get this show out of my mind! I saw a few works by this guy at The "Geometry of Hope" Exhibition last year at the Grey Art Gallery. But this is a pretty comprehensive show of his work, including CromosaturaciĂłn, a site-specific environment designed by the artist for Americas Society’s gallery. Initially conceived of in 1965, this groundbreaking artwork consists of three separate light-infused color chambers of red, green, and blue. The true content of the work involves the visitor walking into, through, and around the shifting chromatic space, and its interaction over time with his or her own physical movement. This show is up till the 13th only...so when you are in midtown taking advantage of the 70% off sales at Saks and Barneys, check this show out...The americas society is located at 68 and Park, free admission and they do some great shows there. More info here.....

A Case of You

Marilyn Minter on Gossip Girl

Along with identifying the music, another one of the things to catch on gossip girl is the art. It seems Serena's new family, the Basses have amassed quite a collection. Last week we saw their Elmgreen & Dragsett and this week I caught two Marilyn Minter's . One in Serena's bedroom.

Marilyn is an amazing person...I've often said to my close friends that her's is a career I would most like to have....slow and steady, full of ups and downs....but in the end, she becomes a superstar. One of my first studio visits was with Marilyn, she really focused and gave of herself, she's been consistently loyal, coming to every opening always with an opinion, even when its critical its constructive. The NY artworld is filled with people who have similar stories about Marilyn, she's had a huge on tons of artists and I wish her nothing but success

Prada Marfa

If anyone else here watches gossip girl you may have noticed that Serena's apt has some pretty cool art. Last night I noticed a wall piece that just said Prada Marfa and I thought Id put up some pictures of the actual piece that is being referenced there, because its by 2 friends of mine Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. They built a small Prada store in the desert in Marfa Texas, with Prada's blessing. Prada actually donated the shoes and bags that are inside. The store is never really open. I've found some great pictures on the web of it and I hope I get to see it myself sometime soon.
