We arrived in Rio de Janiero yesterday afternoon and it is awesome! We were both beat from yet another fun night in Sao Paulo with Zeca and Christiana, a friend of Eduardo´s from work and her husband. We had a great dinner then went to their house to listen to music, Zeca is an enthusiastic fan of brazilian music and gave me an amazing history of samba, and a 6 disc compilation. THANKS!
Rio is so cool, we are at the Ipanema Inn a block from the beach, we walked from Ipanema to Copacabana, had Caiprihenas and an amazing dish of dried beef and pumpkin on the beach, then we jumped in a cab for the cable car trip to the top of Sugarloaf mountain. It´s awesome and happens in 2 parts, it is, of course, scary as hell, but pretty thrilling too and when you get up there, you have an amazing view of this beautiful place. There are all these little mountains and outcroppings in the bay that make the location here look like some prehistoric land of the dinousauers with highrises.
It started to get windy after we were on the top for an hour or so, then it started to get REALLY windy, then rainy, then we were enveloped in a cloud and it was getting really dark and by the time the next car arrived and we got in there was a pretty brutal storm happening outside. The car started to move down very slowly and the wind grabbed it and we started moving, A LOT.... we stayed there for a bit, then reversed back to the top as it was too windy to continue.
We all got out of the car and waited as the storm got really bad, with lightning, thunder and wild wind....after an hour and a half of waiting finally they decided to try it again...we got in , started moving pretty slowly, we were totally enveloped in a cloud so we couldnt really see anything, but were able to continue down the mountain....that was a trip I will never forget!!!!
We are trying to figure out a way to download our pics here at the hotel and post them so, hold on, there will be pics soon.
Today is Eduardo´s birthday, more on that story as it develops, copy....
