In The City

This is really such a cool city, I spent yesterday walking all day long, from Eduardo's neighborhood, Moema to avenida Oscar Freire to Avenida Paulista and back again, the last part through the Park called Ibirapuera where the bienal is held. This park is huge and beautiful and a short walk from Eduardo's place. The neighborhood I'm staying in, Moema, is definately one of the nicest parts of town, Eduardo really likes it here, and he loves São Paulo, he is paulista to the core.

This area is mostly high rise apartment buildings, with a bit of space around each one, the buildings are not crowded together like in New York, there's lots of space between them, so the landscape looks like it has lots of crazy spines poking up, interesting architecture too. Eduardo's building is a plain unadornded column covered in white tiles, 18 stories, with two apartments per floor, so there are windows all around, lots of light and not much noise from the neighbors....it is about a 20 minute walk from the domestic airport, which means we hear and see airplanes all day long. The airport really is right in the middle of the nighborhood, the planes are kind of flying through the canyon of the buildings. Eduardo took the picture of his apartment building below, while he was on a plane about to land.

After my day long walk yesterday, where I finally found some Havaianas in my size. We had some pizza, then rested for a bit, then hooked up with some friends of Eduardo's and went to this club called, `A Torre´ or The Tower.

It was super cool, very seedy looking and empty when we arrived as we came with the DJ's. When the music started around 12:30, the first song they played was by the Chromatics, one of my favorite songs of last year called, ``In the City´´. A perfect song for this very Urban day, I want to say it was the best night here so far, but that would not really be fair to the other nights, all of which were Awesome! Let's just say I had a blast. It ranks right up there with one of my best clubbing experiences EVER. London 1981, Pyramid Club 1987, Duckie 1999, Berlin 2000, The Cock 2003...etc etc.

A lot of it had to do with Eduardo´s friends, the truly amazing DJ´s and the rundown ambience of the club, but mostly it was the mix of people, and Eduardo's friends knew them all, the fashion designers and models, and art students and fashion students and other club owners, etc etc etc.... I kissed so much air last night, I felt like I was hyperventilating.... we stayed until 4, when it was kind of starting to slow down a little bit...exhausted from the dancing, we came back to the apartment where 2 cold slices of wild boar sausage pizza awaited us and guaranteed dreams even more vivid then the night we had just experienced.

It looks like you dressed to match the cathedral!

I'm enjoying looking at your trip from here in grim grey NYC.

Have fun. Hugs to you both.
